On Thursday, May 30, the Foreign Agricultural Service published the 2019-20 safeguard amounts for multiple products, including raw and refined sugar and several sugar-containing product categories. These are the quantity safeguards as opposed to the product safeguards.
With the uptrend in high-tier imports, the safeguard tariffs may be more relevant than in the past even though they don’t apply to FTA countries and are not assessed against in-quota imports.
