SUA Congratulates Secretary of Agriculture Perdue

Washington, DC (April 25, 2017) – The Sweetener Users Association (SUA) today issued the following statement on the confirmation of Governor Sonny Perdue to serve as the next U.S. Secretary of Agriculture:

“We congratulate Secretary Perdue as he takes the helm of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). As America’s sweetener users, our companies – both small and large – are directly affected by many USDA policies, including the agency’s administration of the federal sugar program.

“While it is ultimately up to Congress to reform U.S. sugar policy in ways that better serve hardworking American manufacturers, workers and consumers, we look forward to working closely with Secretary Perdue and USDA officials to encourage program administration that is balanced toward growers, refiners and users. This kind of balance will help ensure that the sugar program works better for America by taking into account the needs and economic concerns of all stakeholders.”
